Young Writers Contest 2025

Last Spring, the California Writers Club Mt. Diablo Branch proudly hosted its 29th annual Young Writers Contest (YWC). YWC is for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students who live or attend school in Contra Costa County. The contest has been held every year since 1995 and accepts submissions in four categories: Poetry, Short Story, Personal Narrative, and Humor. Each entry to the YWC is read and scored by at least two Judges who are members of the Mt. Diablo Branch. Works are awarded based on the average score from each Judge. Freedom of expression is a core value of the Awards. Teens are free to write about any topic and are invited to express themselves authentically and are judged only on the merits of the writing.

30 Winners were chosen this past season and awarded cash prizes of $100, $50, and $25 for their winning entry. Winners were recognized at an awards ceremony on May 18th, 2024 and entries selected for Honorable Mention were mailed a certificate of achievement. Winners of the 2024 Young Writers Contest

This winter, Co-Chairs Quynh-Uyen Trinh and AnneMarie Gouveia are preparing to host the 30th Annual Young Writers Contest which will be accepting entries as of January 1, 2025. If you are interested in being a Judge for the 2025 season and are available to Judge from March 30-April 6, 2025, please get in touch with our Judging Coordinators, Lyn Roberts and Chloe Laube, at youngwriters@cwcmtdiablo.org.
