ADD YOUR BOOK COVERS TO OUR CAROUSEL (Limit: 4)
Our CAROUSEL is under development. We cannot accept new book covers at this time. Stay tuned for a new bookshelf to display members’ published books.
THE BACK FENCE: ONLINE WRITERS DISCUSSION GROUP
As a member of the Mt. Diablo, Tri-Valley, or Berkeley branch, you are allowed to join and participate in The Back Fence Facebook Group’s Online Discussion Forum. The Back Fence is a free private Facebook Group discussion board. You will need a Facebook account to access it.
CRITIQUE GROUPS
Our critique group program is undergoing a redesign. We hope to have it up again ASAP.
EKPHRASIS
EKPHRASIS is a fun and exciting opportunity to exhibit your writing alongside unique art by local artists. We partner with Lamorinda Art Council and Lamorinda Arts Alliance for the annual event. Details can be found on our Ekphrasis page at the above link.
EVENTS
You can find our List of upcoming EVENTS on the HOME page. If you want us to post your event such as a book launch, or speaking engagement, we’ll post that on the website, too. You can also let us know about non-CWC writing events in the area – workshops, writing classes, readings, etc. Send information to Events. Note: we can’t promise to always post an outside event (for instance, if it conflicts with our monthly meeting), but we’ll always let you know if we can’t.
MEMBER DIRECTORY
Join our online MEMBER DIRECTORY, where you can search through our membership and send messages to other members. Find others who write in your genre. Find out who edits stories, designs, and publishes books, offers marketing assistance, or teaches writing classes.
New members since July 2023: Your Member Directory account was created when we added you to our mailing list. You were notified at the time with your username and password. You may log in to change your password and privacy settings, create your profile, and message other members.
Members before July 2023: If you do not yet have an account, click HERE to create one.
MEMBER SPOTLIGHT
MEMBER SPOTLIGHT is a good place to announce your own events or writing milestones. Have you found an agent or publisher, do you have a new book coming out, won a contest, or sold a story to a magazine or other venue? Send your announcement to the above link and we’ll post it on the front page.
MONTHLY MEETINGS
MONTHLY MEETINGS are our big draw. We engage professional speakers for general meetings and workshops. Our own members host craft sessions in various genres and skills. And there’s a buffet lunch at Zio Fraedo’s Restaurant in Pleasant Hill. We meet September through June on the second Saturday of each month. General Meetings are 11:00 – 2:00, and workshops (October and March) are 10:00 – 2:00. Members pay $25 for general meetings and $45 for workshops. Registration at the above link is required for each month’s meeting. Our meetings are open to the public.
OPEN MIC ON ZOOM
Come to OPEN MIC ON ZOOM and read your work to an appreciative and sympathetic audience. Or just listen to others read. No criticism allowed – just clapping, cheering, and getting to know each other. We meet on the Wednesday after the second Saturday of every month, at 7:00 p.m. You must register to join the meeting. This meeting is open to the public.
RESOURCES FOR WRITERS
It takes a team to make a writer successful. Our Resources for Writers page showcases our members who offer writing-related services. We have editors, book designers, teachers, and coaches.
If you want your business listed, click here.
THE WRITE NEWS NEWSLETTER
THE WRITE NEWS is YOUR newsletter; we want to see YOUR work in it. Submit a biography and photo to introduce yourself. Write articles. Submit short stories, flash fiction, poetry, memoir vignettes. Share your publishing news, book launches, and other writing events.
WRITERS CONNECTION
For in-person socialization, WRITERS CONNECTION is the place you want to be. Hosted by Mt. Diablo member, Michael Barrington, Writers Connection meets on the last Wednesday of each month at Chicken Pie Shop in Walnut Creek, at 12:00 p.m. We talk about writing, reading, and topics that affect our lives and our words. You can register to attend at the above link. Walk-ins are welcome. This meeting is open to the public.
WRITERS HELPING WRITERS
Sometimes we all need a little help. If you can’t attend meetings or can’t join our branch because of cost, our WRITERS HELPING WRITERS fund can help with that. Apply at the link. Your query is always private.
WRITERS TABLE
WRITERS TABLE is a 40-minute exploration of the craft of writing, held at our monthly meetings (except for workshops). Talks are led by our own members, sometimes as a presentation to the entire group, or as part of a “marketplace” of tables, each devoted to a different genre or topic.
PROPOSE A NEW PROGRAM OR EVENT
Do you have an idea for a branch activity? Use our Proposal for New Mt. Diablo Programs to present a comprehensive request to the Board of Directors.
