What’s Your Story Reading Group
October 16 @ 12:00 pm – 3:00 pm PDT
This meeting is at a different location: Capital One Cafe, 1139 South Main St., Walnut Creek
To accommodate the interests of those who write stories longer than 2,500 words, we will alternate the format of the monthly meetings. Every other month, the meeting will be devoted to stories of 5,000 words in length. These longer-story meetings will last three hours instead of the usual two. In October, we will hold the first meeting for longer stories.
That next meeting will be on Friday, October 16, at noon, at the Capital One Café (1139 South Main Street, Walnut Creek, CA, 94596), in Community Room 2, on the second floor. Parking is free for the first 3 hours in nearby lots, including the multi-story structure at the corner of Main and Botelho.
Meetings are on the 3rd Friday of each month.
If you are reading:
- Time yourself beforehand. Practice! A 2,500 word story will typically take 10/12 mins to read. The short story 15-minute limit is firm.
- We will use a microphone.
- Robert or Raquel will introduce each reader. He/she will read the title and the genre.
- Feedback, if requested, will be given. Note: feedback is part of your allotted 15 minutes. Therefore, your reading time should be shortened.
- The next reader will be introduced etc.
- If time permits, we’ll have final questions.

What’s Your Story Reading Group welcomes new Meeting Coordinators to handle logistics and lead the meetings.
- Robert and Raquel Garcia Brewer have taken over Michael’s position as Meeting Coordinator. Michael will continue to attend our sessions as a contributing member and as editor of our seasonal compilations with titles such as “Stories for an Autumn Day.”

- The November 20 meeting, for shorter stories, is already scheduled for noon in the Las Trampas Room at the Walnut Creek Library.
- We may alternate between the two locations for future meetings.
- If you would like to present a long story on October 16, please email it to Robert as an attachment (rbrewer110@icloud.com) by September 30. He will distribute the advance copies of these stories to all members of our group well before the meeting.
- Robert and Raquel will be flexible about implementing these changes. Some of the new rules may need adjustment, and they welcome your input.
The How
- We will maintain a list of authors who want to read, along with the title/genre of their stories.
- A small committee will select the readers for each month. You will know well in advance when it is your turn to read.
- Readers: Submit the title and genre of your piece using the form below.
- New stories or a story already published are welcome.
- You can read a chapter from a book if it is a free-standing story and meets the 15-minute time limit. Let us know the genre.
- You may return to this form to submit other titles.
