Two Ekphrasis Events. You can Enter Both!

Ekphrasis for Mt. Diablo Writers

You must register to participate before Feb. 7th!

More writers are needed! Mt. Diablo Branch has partnered with the Lamorinda Arts Council and Lamorinda Arts Association for the 2nd Annual Ekphrasis Exhibit at the Orinda Library Art Gallery.

Mt. Diablo members will choose from 55 art projects by local artists and write a short piece (prose or poem (500 words)) to show what the art inspired in you.

Deadline to register is February 7th. Writers will receive photos of all the art projects on February 8th and choose their top 3 favorites. See the Ekphrasis page for more information.

Ekphrasis for CWC (all branches)

No Need to Register.

Submissions are open for the CWC 2024 Ekphrastic Book: Vision and Verse, a Fusion of Poetry, Prose, Art and Photography

The Submission Period is Feb 1, 2024 – March 7, 2024

The first phase (Art Contest) of CWC’s 2024 ekphrastic book event has been completed. Editor Les Bernstein and judge Cheryl Maeder selected 15 images out of the 276 submitted works of art. The selected art can be viewed on the Cal Writers website: Vision and Verse Art Contest Winners | California Writers Club (click on link).

In the second phase of the Vision and Verse ekphrastic book project, we have opened the submissions page for poetry and prose designed to be paired with the selected artwork. Ekphrastic writing is a literary reaction to a selected artwork. It is a way of using artwork as a writing prompt that is designed to inspire and ignite imagination.

Here is a link to the Book and Submission Guidelines page on the CWC website: Vision and Verse Ekphrastic Book Submissions (click on link).
