My antidote for author scams is this book (very short), which includes conversations—some contentious—with scammers posing as librarians, book clubs, literary agents, and even best-selling authors whose identities have been stolen. Included are tips on recognizing scams and protecting yourself.

Bruce Lewis was an award-winning crime reporter for several California daily newspapers before launching a career as a public relations consultant. The public relations firm he co-founded earned more than 30 professional awards for excellence in communications.
He has written over 8,000 stories, including flash fiction, short stories, news releases, and blog posts. After retiring, the #1 item on his bucket list was to write a novel. He has written four, with a fifth in development.
He’s a graduate of California State University, Long Beach, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism.
He is a member of the California Writers Club—Mt. Diablo Branch and Willamette Writers in Oregon.
