CWC-Mt. Diablo Presents: Liz Tucker – Writing to Theme

June 12, 2021 @ 9:30 am 12:30 pm PDT

There are many instruments contained in our “writerly toolboxes” that allow us to mine, sharpen, and ultimately strengthen our works on the thematic level. We’ll take a look at excerpts from published works to identify and explore the narrative techniques used to deepen their respective artistic motifs. Whether we write fiction, memoir, poetry, drama or creative non-fiction, theme matters. Exercises will be provided that apply to our own works.

Liz will discuss:

  • What is Theme and Why is It Important
  • A Word on Plot versus Theme
  • The When, Where and How of Developing and Deepening Theme
  • Generative Exercises to Unearth and Explore Theme in Our Own Works
